Holiday at Home

May half-term saw 30 older people come to a Holiday at Home at St Paul’s. This was a chance for people to come together and enjoy fun activities, such as glass painting, a lecture about art and Christianity, and a street party. There were also opportunities to recite poetry, do some computer activities, and ask questions of Sunethra Goonawardene, a local blind lady who brought along her guide dog.

On Friday, Holiday at Home joined with the rest of the church community in an outing to St Paul’s Cathedral in Central London. There were guided tours, and a chance to appreciate the Cathedral in all its splendour, which was enjoyed by all.

The Revd Mavis Crispin, associate vicar, said of the event: “Last year was good, but this was better! It was a great opportunity to learn new skills and spend time with each other in a relaxed atmosphere. The highlights were definitely the 1953 coronation style street party lunch, and the chance to spend our ration coupons at the traditional sweet shop! Some managed the trip to St Paul’s Cathedral, and the event was wonderfully brought together in a Songs of Praise style service on Sunday morning which we all shared in.”

Keep your eyes peeled for next year's Holiday at Home. We’re sure it will be even better!
